Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare’s Clinical VP Karen Lerner will present “Selecting Wound Related DME: Unraveling the Medicare and Insurance ‘Mystery’ Requirements” at the 2022 Wild on Wounds conference on September 8, 2022, in Hollywood, Fla.

PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y. (SEPTEMBER 1, 2022)—Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare’s Clinical VP Karen Lerner will present “Selecting Wound Related DME: Unraveling the Medicare and Insurance ‘Mystery’ Requirements” at the 2022 Wild on Wounds conference on September 8, 2022, in Hollywood, Fla.

“It can be challenging for clinicians to stay up to date with specific CMS guidelines for durable medical equipment [DME] coverage,” said Lerner. “While professionals are often on top of CPT codes and payment rates, they are frequently unaware of what’s required when prescribing wound-related DME for discharged and at-home patients as well as for patients in various healthcare facilities. ”

The course will bring healthcare professionals up to date with the current Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) policies for wound-related DME/rehab equipment, ensuring they have what they need to document to help procure what they recommend for clients/patients for safe transition to home and/or stay in any health care facility.

Lerner is a registered nurse, wound care, hospice, long-term care and rehab specialist with more than 35 years of clinical and industry experience. She has extensive experience as a public speaker, educating home medical equipment (HME), hospice, homecare and rehab providers and clinicians on a variety of topics. Karen’s speaking engagements included testifying before Congress on behalf of the HME industry.

Since October 2013, Karen has worked as part of Drive DeViIlbiss’ Clinical Team. Prior to coming to Drive, Karen was VP of Clinical Services at a Northeast-based durable medical equipment (DME) company. She began her career as a critical care clinical specialist in major teaching hospitals from Florida to New Jersey. Karen received her undergraduate degree from Duke University and her graduate education from the University of Florida.
