Inspired by Drive Teams with Designing Spaces to Help Florida Child with Rare Disease

Inspired by Drive, a division of Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare and manufacturer of pediatric rehabilitation products for more than 50 years, has teamed with the home improvement show Designing Spaces to bring hope and help to a Lake Worth, Fla. child with special needs. 

Liam Cruz lives with Allan-Herndon-Dudley Syndrome, also known as MTC8 Deficiency, a disorder resulting in severe intellectual disability and movement problems. The diagnosis is very rare with only 3-4 cases in the United States. His mother Nicole Bolufé cares for him, feeding Liam through a port in his stomach and taking him to school, therapy, and doctor appointments. 

As part of a special episode titled “Designing Spaces of Hope: Liam’s Story,” Designing Spaces partnered with brands including Inspired by Drive to surprise Bolufé with products designed to make the family’s home more accessible and simplify daily life.  

Inspired by Drive Associate Product Manager Itzel Lemus met with the family during filming to present them with three products designed to make it easier for Bolufé to provide Liam’s care throughout the day while giving him optimal support and comfort to engage in activities: 

  • P Pod Postural Support System – An adaptive seating device that assists in comfortable upright positioning to help children engage with family and peers. 
  • Trotter Mobility Chair – A lightweight stroller-like alternative to heavy wheelchairs that features head-to-toe positioning options. 
  • Spirit Plus Car Seat – A special needs car seat allowing children up to 130 pounds to ride safely with specialized support and positioning. 

“It was an honor to connect with this Inspired family and provide them with much-needed products to make it easier to get Liam where he needs to go and give him comfortable support in every setting,” Lemus said.
